The Edited Human
My practice explores the paradox between the ‘infinite freedom’ promised by digital interfaces and the underlying structures of technological control. The Edited Human series is a visual inquiry into how technology moves beyond its role as a mere tool for extending or diminishing human senses, actively reconstructing and ‘editing’ our corporeality and identity.
This critical perspective emerges from the collision between technology and ethics embedded in everyday life. Whilst creation in the digital realm appears to dissolve spatiotemporal constraints, this apparent liberty is, in reality, a form of ‘Conditional Freedom’, permitted only within predefined systems. My work examines how this digital illusion conceals our material presence and sensory awareness.
By gazing into the ruinous landscapes concealed behind vibrant pixels, I ask: are we sovereign operators of these vast technological systems, or have we become data—continually modified and optimised by algorithms—ultimately transformed into ‘Edited Humans’?

나의 작업은 디지털 인터페이스가 약속하는 '무한한 자유'와 그 이면에서 작동하는 '기술의 통제', 그 사이의 역설을 탐구한다. <The Edited Human> 연작은 기술이 인간의 감각을 확장하거나 소멸시키는 도구적 차원을 넘어, 어떻게 우리의 신체성과 정체성을 재구성하고 '편집(Edit)'하는지를 추적하는 시각적 사유다.
이러한 문제의식은 우리 삶 깊숙이 침투한 기술과 윤리의 충돌에서 비롯되었다. 디지털 공간에서의 창작은 시공간의 제약을 지우는 듯했으나, 실상 그 자유는 프로그래밍 된 프레임워크 안에서만 유효한 '조건부 자유(Conditional Freedom)'에 불과했다. 나는 이 디지털의 환상성(Illusion)이 인간 고유의 물성(Materiality)과 감각을 어떻게 마비시키는지 주목한다.
화려한 픽셀의 장막 뒤에 감춰진 폐허를 응시하며 나는 묻는다. 우리는 거대 기술 시스템을 주체적으로 운용하는 존재인가, 아니면 알고리즘에 의해 끊임없이 수정되고 최적화되는 데이터, 즉 '편집된 인간'인가.
