I was born as a woman living in this era, and I grew up seeing discrimination and human rights abuses that women face in different cultures, religions, and countries. So I thought art is the most powerful medium to speak out my opinion about women's rights. So in my artwork, where there is no language barrier, I expressed the image of women who are precious beings and should be respected.
Some people still think that women have to be beautiful, pretty, obedient, quiet, and noble based on old-fashioned standards and stereotypes. However, women have different personalities and don't have to follow the criteria others made. Women are the same humans, so they have the freedom to choose our life and legitimate rights equally.
I thought that the Pink color represents women. So, I made my artwork pink tone. A woman in the artwork closes her eyes, and she does not care about social criteria, other people's gazes and prejudice. She only thinks about her various abilities and influences. Thus, the fishes depict the diverse talents, confidence, and personality of women in the world. These fishes spread significant effect to the world by flowing in vast space, not in a fishbowl.
나는 여성으로 태어나, 이 시대를 살면서, 같은 여성들이 다른 문화, 종교, 나라 속에서 겪는 차별과 인권유린을 보며 자랐다. 내가 이 많은 여성인권 문제에 대해 나의 목소리를 낼 수 있는 곳은 나의 작품이 가장 적합한 미디엄이라고 생각했다. 언어의 장벽이 없는 이 작품 속에서 우리가 추구해야하는 여성상에 대해 표현했다. 우리 모두 한사람, 한사람이 소중한 존재이며, 존중받아야만 한다는 것을 알아줬으면 좋겠다.
구시대적인 잣대와 기준으로 여전히 여성들을 평가하고, 판단한다. 대부분의 사람들은 여자는 아름답고, 예쁘고, 순종적이어야하며, 조용하고, 고상해야한다고 생각한다. 하지만 우리 여성들은 다양한 인격체들이다. 광활한 바다 속의 정말 수만가지의 물고기들이 존재하듯이, 우리 여성들도 각자의 아름다움과 개성을 가지고 태어났다. 우리는 누군가의 기준에 맞출 필요가 없다. 어항에 갇힌 물고기가 아닌 저 넓은 바다를 누비며 살아가는 존재가 되어야한다. 우리는 똑같은 인간이며,
